Pakistani Society: The uncensored truth (Part 5)

Part 5

The society is infested with numerous problems and turning a blind eye to these issues only serves to make them even more prevalent. One such issue is that of the common practice of changing religion to one’s liking and using it as a tool to attain selfish
motives.

While the general public believes that it is only the ‘molvis’ who indulge in this fraudulent activity, the truth is that almost everyone manipulates the religion to an extent where the guiding principles of life are replaced by the guiding principles of
asserting one’s dominance and justifying one’s actions.

The biggest victim of this manipulation in Pakistan is Islam. For most of the people, religion is something that is passed down to them from their preceding generation. A huge majority of the population makes absolutely no effort in going into the depth
of the teachings of Islam and therefore fails to comprehend the true essence of what is being taught to them. Instead, they become blinded by their own ignorance and end up following a religion that they believe is Islam, but is in actual nothing more than
a set of traditions and norms that they are expected to follow.

The cunning minds make use of this ignorance to manipulate the people around them playing the religion card and if anyone dares to oppose or question them, that person is declared a non-believer. This manipulation does not only happen in the conservative
areas, but also takes place in posh areas such as Defence, Model Town, Bahria Town, etc.

Religion is also used whenever a person finds someone question his actions. A dominant man plays the religion card to suppress a woman, quoting some fabricated or misunderstood Quranic verse of hadith to support his cause. The women in Pakistan are brainwashed
from the start and forced to believe that they are meant to be inferior to their male counterparts, which results in their lack of fight for their rights and justice.

There have been cases where a frustrated and sick men have ruined lives of unknown women by claiming that they are cleansing the women of her sins and preventing her from succumbing to the Satanic whispers. Acids have been thrown on females, kidnappings
have occurred, marriages to an extremely in appropriate spouse have been conducted and at times women have been slain all in the name of religion.

The manipulation of religion is increasing at an alarming rate and if it is not stopped soon, a lot of lives are expected to be ruined. People need to be educated about their religion and everyone needs to be made aware of their rights and duties. People
need to stop teaching each other religion, especially Islam, unless they themselves understand it completely. Nobody should be allowed to judge another person and anyone found using religion as a tool to suppress someone or attain supremacy should not be spared.
Religious scholars also need to take responsibility for educating the society and spreading the word of God in its purest form instead of letting the people become brainwashed at the hands of illiterate preachers who more often than naught communicate wrong
