When life savers turn into life takers
Thursday, November 10th, 2011 8:41:19 by Sharjeel AhmadHow happy they were! Totally unaware of the fact that they would not be able to witness the sun of November 7 setting deep into the green fields stretching around their house.
Mother rose up early in the morning, cooked dessert, adorned her only son and sent him to mosque for Eid prayer by taking a kiss on his forehead. Both father and son returned from mosque and the trio enjoyed dessert.
Meanwhile, the butcher arrived and sacrificial animal was slaughtered. There were pleasures and joy all around. No sign of sorrow, no regret of past and no worry of future.
In the afternoon, the threesome decided to visit one of their close relatives. Like 60 percent of Pakistan’s middle class people, they had a motorbike for transportation.
The man kick started the bike, wife and son boarded on it and a happy travel began. The bike was swaying with joys, smiles and glad gossips. It was Jaranwala Road where transporters act like savages under the ‘legal’ cover of the local police which receive
monthly bribes to allow overloading and rush driving.
The bike was flying smoothly. The trio was just a few yard away from their target destination. Suddenly and unfortunately, a police van, which contained some drunk security personal along with dancing girls, hit the bike. On the very next moment, the three
family members were lying on the road as dead bodies. Their new and shiny dresses were awash with blood. How pathetic and pity!
As an extreme show of inhumanity, the hitters did not stop there and bother to inquire what they had done. The intoxicated driver pressed the accelerated and the van went out of sight within a few seconds, leaving the innocent deceased ones mourning over
the destiny of the coming generations of Pakistan.
What a hell this is! Here, I would like to say that we are a police state, not a welfare one which was conceived by Quaid-e- Azam. In the garb of law, security and peace, our police and security personnel are tormenting the nation, doing all that they want.
There is no bar on them. They are not answerable to anyone. Is this law? Not at all. Sorry to say, this is merely oppression. Those, who are supposed to guard our lives, are killing us.
The above-mentioned incident is just one which I know personally. There happen many such type of gruesome occurrences in our country on every day, but most of them go unreported. Deaths in police custody, police tortures, police-backed robberies, fake police
encounters and other such type of bullshit things happen to write our obituaries.
Are we human? Are we nation? Do we have a nation state? Are our properties, lives and honours are safe? The answer of all these questions is No. Then what to wait for? Just rise up for the change, a long term change, a revolution which may help us breathing
with relief.
