One of the most anticipated heavy metal events is just around corner – and with the genre’s fans gearing up for the year 2012’s agenda, they may add a bigger outing to their basket as Slayer sets out to relive its mammoth hit album, Reign of Blood.
The news has been confirmed that the band will perform their album live in London next May at the opening night of All Tomorrow’s Parties (ATP) weekend festival at Alexandra Palace and will be supported by Sleep and Washington band The Melvins.
As reported on Slayer’s website, Slayer.net, ATP expressed it delight for having Slayer on board especially when the metal gods head out to commemorate their 25th anniversary.
Slayer.net reported ATP as citing, “ATP are incredibly excited to announce that this year the event starts on Friday 25th May when the incomparable Slayer will present their undisputed classic Reign in Blood live in its entirety during their headline set to celebrate its 25th anniversary! Released in 1986, it is widely considered one of the greatest albums of all time – in 2006 Metal Hammer named it ‘The best metal album of the last 20 years,’”
However, for the matter, Pantera’s front man, Phil Anselmo, who has been a fanatical follower of Slayer, also had some fine words to add to the upcoming mega event.
In his recent interviews, Philip was asked as to when the vocal god discovered Slayer – and in response the lead singer revealed
“When Slayer released Hell Awaits, I, like many others, was sold. That record is still my favorite. Very Mercyful Fate influenced riff-wise but the point is: Slayer became more extreme, where bands like Metallica were heading in a more acceptable direction. I was a Slayer kid 100%” revealed Phillip.
“To me, Slayer invented the style of heavy metal I adore. There may have been other great bands out there – great influential bands – but Slayer stands alone in my heart till I croak, period. And I think history will be kind to them. They’re legends under my roof anyway,” he added.
