Eating a lot of cured meat like fish meat can result in obesity and is always the main reason behind weight gain.
However, scientists now deduce that eating fish on a regular basis decreases the concentration of glucose which means that chances of developing diabetes are less for those people who include fish in their diet pattern.
Prevention with a Mediterranean Diet is a research journal whose main author is Dr. Mercedes Sotos Prieto. The researcher from University of Valencia has said that in recent decades, diet plans have changes and the consumption of saturated fats has increased.
She conducted an experiment in a Valencian community on 945 people. 340 subjects were male while the rest were women. All of the subjects were between the age of 55 and 80 and suffered from cardiovascular diseases. The aim of this study was to study the
dietary patterns in terms of fish and meat consumption.
Nutricion Hospitalaria journal published the results of the study a few days back and it was observed that most of the Mediterranean population choose to eat large amounts of fish and red meat.
However, it was later observed that consumption of fish leads to a decreased concentration in glucose levels hence chances of suffering from diabetes are lowered.
On the other hand, consumption of cured meat especially red meat can result in obesity especially if it’s taken in large amounts.
Later on, the research showed that women maintain a far healthier diet pattern than men and although the research had been carried out on Mediterranean population, the results could be similar for a population from some other region.
