Kapoor’s “Rockstar” to hit the sky or run down to catastrophe

The new face of Bollywood’s flamboyant dream-boy and the son of a super-star of the classics Rishi Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor accomplished his four years in the industry, with his eighth release, ‘Rockstar’.

The young Kapoor emerged in the industry with his debut in ‘Saawariya’ in November 2007. By the end of 2011, his latest release ‘Rockstar’ was indeed highly anticipated by not only the fan-followers but also the star himself.

Ranbir was adamant that his role as Sid from ‘Wake-Up Sid’ was by far his top of the list favorite, until he adhered his personality with Janardan Jordan or JJ from Rockstar.

The image of an anarchist was revealed in Rockstar in form of a naïve university student, who traced a journey from soul-searching to self-destruction.

JJ from the movie is conveniently mirrored with the real-life ‘Rockstar’ Jim Morrison. Harboring his dreams to become a Rockstar is staggered by love and heartbreak following an oafish affair with his college diva, after her marriage in the movie.

Ironically, the spot-light was easily ruptured by the projection of JJ under Jim Morrisonesque figure. However there being no concordance between the heartbroken protagonist expressing his pain through musical lyrics and the rebel waging an undue anarchy
against the whole society.

Prior to the release, the movie expected to show a fairly high degree, came out stumblingly static. Coming from a team effort of Imtiaz Ali, Anil Mehta, and music giant, A.R. Rahman, the script however lacked conviction and failed to sustain itself.

It is observed to have an electrifying start having a few beautiful moments of cinematography but just to descend thereafter with a bit too many strings left untied.

The film aims at a modern dialect of an uncivilized smoldering love and passion and could indeed be an appealing concern to a rebel newer generation. The biggest dilemma; however is that the film gyrates two totally different quanta, one being a love-story
of a heart-throb with serene emotions and one being anarchy of a rebellious ‘Rockstar’.

Despite being a low rated film and having major flaws in the script, film indeed would be a milestone for Ranbir Kapoor, judging him as an actor and not just a pretty face in the industry.

When asked if Ranbir himself relates to JJ of ‘Rockstar’, he stated, “I wish nobody has to go through the tragedy and heartbreak that Janardan goes through in the film.”

“Everybody has their share of trials and heartbreaks. I too have had them and I believe they make an artist stronger” concluded Ranbir Kapoor.
