The leaders of the South Asian countries met together in a two day summit which recently reached its conclusion after the leaders had made pledges to boast trade between the regions and make communication as well as travelling easier than before.
The summit of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc) had taken place in Addu, which is why the pledge has been named the Addu Declaration. More specifically, the leaders of the South Asian countries decided that the South Asian Free
Trade Area (Safta) accord will be implemented more effectively in the future. Not only that, the leaders also agreed upon carrying out a reduction in the sensitive list. Furthermore, the leaders pledged to work towards the resolution of the non-tariif barriers
that are prevalent in between the states of the Saarc.
Among the other issues that were discussed, trade also played a focal role. The leaders agreed upon taking measures that would enhance the free flow of capital which will also lead to an increased amount of investment in the South Asian region. A freer trade
environment will give boast to better connectivity and understanding among the nations of the region.
The Addu Declaration basically talks about making Saarc an effective role player in boasting the regional ties among the nations and empowering them in such a way that the Saarc countries emerge as strong nations. However, the leaders of the South Asian
nations also talked about creating rapid response systems if a natural disaster occurs in one of the Saarc countries. This would facilitate the affected country greatly by providing it with timely support and especially with the things that the affected country
lacks in order to deal with the disaster effectively.
Not only that, the leaders of the South Asian nations also talked about creating rapid response systems in relation with the Saarc Seed Bank because otherwise it would not be as effective and lose its essence.
Other issues that were discussed and agreed upon by the Saarc leaders include how to effectively combat terrorism, deal with the prevailing drug problems, particularly trafficking in the nations etcetera.
