ECNEC approved Rs. 18,132.544 Billion for Lawari tunnel and access road project

for clearance of the debris inside the tunnel and make it able for vehicular traffic during the winter season.
Talking to the local journalists on Friday in his residence, Shahzada Mohyuddin said that as a result of his unswerving efforts both on the floor of the house and in the platforms outside the parliament, the federal government
agreed to allocate 18 billion rupees for the completion of the project as per modified design which has been changed from rail tunnel to the road tunnel.
He said that the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has formally approved the Rs. 18,132.544 million for Lawari tunnel and access roads project. The Executive Committee of the ECNEC, which has met here
today with the Federal Minister for Finance and Economic Affairs, Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh in the chair, has approved seven projects. The projects that were brought under discussion today have already been put in the last meeting of the Central Development
Working Party and were duly recommended by the same to the ECNEC, for consideration and approval. The Economic Council also deliberated at length over the Islamabad Safe City Project which was already approved lastly.
He said that the project will be completed within a span of one year time after the release of funds for which the people of Chitral waiting with impatience.
Mr. Mohyuddin said that with the closure of Lowari Top road due to snowfall during the winter season, the tunnel will be kept opened for the passengers and transportation of goods to facilitate the people.
Regarding the Mastuj-Baroghil road, he said that under the special directive of President Zardari, the 200-kms long road would connect Chitral with the Central Asian state of Tajikistan through the Wakhan corridor of Afghanistan.
MNA Chitral said that initially the cost of the road has been estimated at 3 billion rupees.
