Republican candidates bash Pakistan in their latest policy debate in the United States of America

Pakistan came in for heavy criticism when republican candidates took the podium in their latest edition of policy debate in the United States of America. Herman Cain and Mitt Romney were two prominent candidates who criticised
Pakistan, out of the two Romney was more elaborative on his critique of Pakistan’s role in the global war on terror and its alliance with the United States of America.

 Both the republican politicians are front runners for their party’s nomination as the official presidential candidate to challenge Barrack Obama in the next presidential elections in the United States of America.

Mitt Romney said in his remarks that Pakistan cannot be dealt with like another country in the world, he stated, “The right way to deal with Pakistan is to recognise that Pakistan is not a country, like other countries, with a
strong political centre that you can go to and say, ‘Gee, can we come here, will you take care of this problem?’ This is instead a nation which is close to being a failed state. I hope it doesn’t reach that point, but it’s really a fragile nation”

Rick Perry on the other hand stated that Pakistan’s aid should be cut off until or unless the South Asian country convinces Pakistan as to why it deserves American tax payer money at all. He said,  “Then we’ll have a conversation
in this country about whether or not a penny of our taxpayer dollars needs to go into those countries Pakistan is clearly sending us messages … that they don’t deserve our foreign aid … because they’re not being honest with us”.

Alternatively Herman Cain was a bit more subdued in his remarks about Pakistan’s relationship with the United States of America. He said, “There isn’t a clear answer as to whether or not Pakistan is a friend or foe”. Other candidates
also sharply criticised Pakistan’s policy towards United States of America amidst allegations that the country’s intelligence structure was playing a double game with the U.S.
