Former Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi part ways with Pakistan People’s Party

He announced his resignation from party’s membership while talking to the media at his ancestral city, Multan on Monday,
November 14.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Qureshi said, “My association with PPP goes back a long time and today it is coming to end.”
Mr. Qureshi took oath as the Foreign Minister of the Pakistan in the coalition government formed because of the 2008 General Elections. He remained in charge of the office until February 2011. Following the reshuffling of the Federal Cabinet, Mr. Qureshi
was overlooked for the office of the Foreign Minister, which forced his rebellion against the current party relationship.
In past few months, Mr. Qureshi has been critical of his former party’s current leadership and decision makers. Mr. Qureshi is the head of the Qureshi family and is the custodian of the Shrines of Hazrat Baha-ud-din Zakariya and Shah Rukn-e-Alam.
He was one of the senior leaders of PPP and was highly respected among the ranks of the party.
Mr. Qureshi has expressed his dissatisfaction with the current politics of PPP. He further expressed his grief that the current leadership has deviated from the vision and principles of the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. He termed the current PPP as ‘Zardari
League’. He further added, “Zardari buried the politics of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto along with her.”
Besides announcing his resignation from PPP, Mr. Qureshi has announced his resignation from his current National Assembly (NA) seat. He was elected from NA 148, Multan – I seat under the banner of the Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarian (PPPP) in 2008
General Elections.
Mr. Qureshi has termed the current alliance between PPP and Pakistan Muslim League – Q (PML – Q) as violation of Charter of Democracy (CoD).
Mr. Qureshi further announced that he will make important announcements regarding his future on November 27. Earlier today, Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI), Mr. Imran Khan has disclosed that Mr. Qureshi will join PTI on November 27. Mr. Khan made
these comments while talking to one of the leading private channel of Pakistan.
