Toshiba Portege Z835 launched this week by Toshiba Corporation
Monday, November 14th, 2011 6:21:43 by Usman KhalidToshiba Corporation took a leap into the ultra-slim laptop market with new instalment to the Protégé family, the new Toshiba Protégé Z835-P330.
The new notebook might be a counterattack on Apple, Inc. for their Macbook Air but this new laptop looks more flamboyant than its counterpart.
The company had to compromise on the optical drive in the device as all other companies have gone through the same process. However, still the looks and rest of the specifications eclipse the DVD drive deficiency.
The new device is powered by Intel’s second-generation 1.4 GHz Core i3 processor (dual-core) and has a massive 4 GB of RAM. In addition the device includes a 128 GB of solid state hard drive (SSD) which takes it ahead in the competition.
This concludes the notebook has no moving parts whatsoever, another aspect that can be seen in many of the ultra-slim laptops in the market.
The 1360 x 768 resolution, 13-inch full HD LED-TFT screen has quite a sharp picture quality as compared to its counterparts.
WiFi, Bluetooth, USB 2.0/3.0 and HDMi ports come pre-installed. Moreover, the laptop also has an Ethernet port that many of its competitors lack at the moment.
With merely 1-inch thickness and approximately less than a pound weight, the new Protégé gives a nice feel when held and laid on the lap.
However, on the downside, the laptop lacks a powerful processor like Core i5 or i7 although it takes a leap ahead of the Core2Duo processor in Macbook Air. However, other companies are going places with faster processors. The keyboard in the laptop has quite
small keys that make problems for larger hands.
However, all these cutbacks and shortcomings are left in the rear-view mirror when the price comes into the arena. The slim and smart Toshiba Protégé is available for a humble price of $899. With all the aforesaid specs under a $900 price cap; it is a bargain
to be considered.
