Falcon Northwest launches Intel’s Core i7 six-core processor in the latest Mach V CPU
Tuesday, November 15th, 2011 7:07:49 by Usman KhalidIntel took a big leap ahead of its competitors in processor manufacturing with its new addition to the second-generation Core i7 series. The computer hardware giants launched a new six-core processor, Core i7 3930K earlier this week, mainly to cater the
hardcore gaming segment.
Falcon Northwest are the first ones to incorporate the new processor in their new CPU, Falcon Northwest Mach V. Having close lore into Intel’s latest circuitry, it was not a surprise that Falcon Northwest were the first to release the latest version of Core
i7.
In addition to the new 6-core processor, the new X79 chipset has some mind blowing specification. The new motherboard has 16 GB DDR3 RAM and a massive 3.75 GB graphics card. The GPU specs will be aired when the new CPU hits the markets.
Along with all these tech gismos nestled into a mesmerising Mach V casing are a Blu-Ray/DVD Dual-Layer writer and a fairly developed ‘power button’. The old versions of Falcon Northwest casings had a loosely held power buttons that would fall into the casing
when exerted a little more pressure. The front panel had to be opened to fish it out. The ventilation has been upgraded with an upward vent and fan.
The new processor has an on paper clock speed of 3.3 GHz but the 12-thread capability of the six cores takes it up to 4.4 GHz in several tests. However, this performance makes the new instalment questionable in the eyes of tech gurus.
The previous version of Core i7 (quad-core) 2600K had the capability of beefing up the clock speed to a whopping 4.8 GHz, registered in various tests.
Moreover, the new processor appeared in mediocre state when its performance was observed in multi-tasking of several applications. In some it topped the chart and in some it was in the middle of the graph.
Another question that sprung after the aforesaid tests was its price. The new CPU from Falcon is available in exchange of huge dough of $4995, which is double the amount that can purchase a Core i7 2600K that more or less does the same work.
In a nut shell, the new processor needs some tweaks to make it worth the enormous price. A new successor to this version is expected in the first quarter of 2012.
