‘I resigned because I was being compelled to provide protection to Raymond Davis’: Shah Mahmood Qureshi

 Shah Mahmood Qureshi, the former foreign minister of Pakistan and a strong and seasoned politician represented Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) previously and the former Member National Assembly said that he resigned from the post of foreign minister because
he was compelled to provide protection to the American national, the assassin of an innocent Pakistani guy, Raymond Davis and not because of the ministry.

Qureshi said, while talking to the media in his native town Multan, that Raymond Davis he resigned right after three days of the controversial escape of the Raymond Davis. The assassin was escaped on January 27, 2011 and he resigned on January 30, 2011 in
the presence of the President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani.

He said that some of the PPP leaders gone crazy and spoke about him and the late General Zia-ul-Haq. He added that they should not forget that the current Prime Minister Gilani had also taken oath as minister under the military dictator.   

Mr. Qureshi accepted in response to the PPP criticism that his father had relations with late General Zia-ul-Haq and he did not refute the fact.

“People think that they are smarter than Mohtarma Benazir, your political vision is not even equal to her shoes,” said the former foreign minister. 

In response to a question regarding fusion in the country’s emerging political party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Mr. Qureshi said that he would proclaim his plans at the rally in Ghotki which will take place on November 27.

The former foreign minister said that he accepted that he was with the leader of Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) Mr. Nawaz Sharif in the past and still he maintains exceptional relations with him. He added that he met him in the past and will meet him tomorrow
if he will be willing for a meeting.

Mr. Qureshi revealed that he is leaving for Dubai to participate in the tank forum and would meet Nawz Sharif.

“I believe in transparency and transparent politics,” said Qureshi. “Now is not the time to save your seat, but it is the time to save Pakistan.”
