Shah Mahmood Qureshi: Echoes the voice of the nation

Ex Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi has emerged as a political hero of this nation after he said ‘no’ to his leadership, who were asking him to give complete immunity to Raymond Davis, who had killed two Pakistani citizens earlier this
year in Lahore. Foreign ministry is considered to be the most important portfolio a minister can ask for and to take a principle stand on that issue was surely something commendable.
Qureshi, who hails from Southern Punjab and has a lot of say in the politics of his area, resigned from the membership of Pakistan Peoples Party yesterday and also from the National Assembly. He slammed the party leadership and said that the current leadership
has forgotten the ideology of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto. This is the reason why, the former Foreign Minister is of the opinion that PPP does not have a significant political future ahead.
Some of the leaders of the party are alleging that Qureshi has resigned only because the portfolio was taken back from him and he is greedy for power. However, Qureshi has denied this allegation by clarifying that it was he who resigned from the ministry
as he refused to give immunity to Raymond Davis and nobody expelled him.
Qureshi said, “People think that they are smarter than Mohtarma Benazir, your political vision is not even equal to her shoes. I am leaving the Zardari league, and I have quit the membership of the PPP. Zardari buried the politics of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto
along with her as well as has betrayed the vision of Mohtarma. PPP was no longer a party of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto; ‘it is now Zardari league’ and he did not want to be a part of Zardari league so he had resigned from the party member-ship.”
Chances are extremely high that Qureshi will join Pakistani Tehreek e Insaaf by the end of November, which is going to be a new beginning for Qureshi’s politics. His inclusion is surely going to boost Imran Khan’s party, which is in need of experienced politicians.
There is no doubt about the fact that Qureshi became a hero of this nation as he echoed the voice of Pakistani people on the Raymond Davis episode. No matter what the PPP leaders say, he has grown his stature as a politician by taking a principle stance.
