Russian Prime Minister, Vladimir Putin, will receive China’s alternative to the Nobel Peace Prize, the Confucius Peace Prize. The organizers of the award are determined to reward the Russian supremo for his efforts to maintain world peace despite Beijing’s
opposition.
It was revealed that no award will be presented this year, however, runaway member Qiao Damo has setup a new panel and insisted that an award ceremony will go ahead.
Confucius Peace Prize was disbanded earlier this year but Damo, a poet by profession has gone ahead with their initial plans. He revealed that Mr Putin has been chosen for his standing up against NATO’s bombing of Libya.
"This year’s peace prize was given to him because his act this year was outstanding in keeping world peace," Mr Qiao told AFP news agency.
The panel has also taken Putin’s stance in the ongoing war in Chechnya.
"His iron hand and toughness revealed in this war impressed the Russians a lot, and he was regarded to be capable of bringing safety and stability to Russia," the statement said.
It is likely that Vladimir Putin will be unaware of the award, the Chinese answer to put Nobel Peace Prize’s hegemony out of the equation. The award ceremony will be held on December 9, a day before the Nobel award ceremony.
"I feel the Noble Peace Prize has gone too far away from peace, and their standard has gone too far away from the essence of peace," he said.
"Western values are not perfect and need an alternative to balance them out."
