Mastretta MXT, the first Mexican sports car launched at Los Angeles Auto Show
Thursday, November 17th, 2011 6:24:37 by Usman KhalidMexican automobile manufacturers Mastretta, showcased their first sports car at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 17.
Mastretta has been involved in car manufacturing for last one decade but only in kit vehicles. However, they took a bold step couple of years ago and plunged into complete car manufacturing.
The first MXT marks the genesis of Mexican brands in the automobile market and more can be expected from Mastretta and other El Tri counterparts. However, first the MXT’s success has to be determined, which faces ruthless competition in a market that is
already bossed by Italian, German and American brands.
This new Mexican is the brainchild of Mastretta owner Daniel Mastretta’s acumen and the company’s own wits from an extensive 10-year experience.
The vehicle targets mediocre class with limited amount to shell out on luxury wheels. However, for a humble price of $50,000, the car is well-conceived on books.
It has a 2-litre straight-four engine under the hood that fires out 250 horse-powers to all four wheels and the four pistons churn out as much pound-feet of torque.
250 horses for sports car might be little old school in modern times but if given a glance at the weight-to-power ratio and sheer size of the vehicle, the power is enough for taking off from 0 to 60 mph under 5 seconds, 4.9 seconds to be exact. The car weighs
only 900 pounds so it’s fast and light-weight at the same time.
The MXT has a shorter wheel-base so it is quite easier to handle and with its wider differential, it is quite impressive in corners.
Many drawing boards were filled with colours for a perfect design to MXT and result paid dividends. The car was focal point of many eyes at the auto show and received some encouraging reviews.
Easier handling and smart shaped, coupled with yellow and red flamboyant colours, might also attract feminine demographic or the market.
The company plans to launch their first-born right after concluding the LA car show. Car enthusiasts can pre-order the car from company’s website however; with a limited capacity of production, 150 per annum, and potential markets in the US, the UK and rest
of the Europe, the wait list is expected to be lengthier.
