PTI central vice president Shahid Qazi’s resignation and its meaning for the “Squeaky Clean” party
Thursday, November 17th, 2011 5:03:26 by Syed Hassan BokhariPTI central vice president Shahid Qazi’s resignation and its meaning for the “Squeaky Clean” party
There is no doubt that politics around the world and including Pakistan is basically a tug of war for the positions of power and nothing else at all, but there are always some people who truly are loyal and give their life, wealth, time and everything else
for the sake of the party in order for it, not them, to be successful.
Shahid Qazi was one of those people who truly joined a political party in order to do something better for his country, hoping that one day, his years of hard work would pay off and he would actually have the chance of performing for the yearning masses.
Qazi, who was the Pakistan Tehreek-i-insaf’s central vice president from Balochistan, resigned on the 11th of November, 2011, from his post in the political party, but as it would be seen as a manoeuvre to join the ruling party of Pakistan, the
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), it was something much bigger than that.
After having spent more than 13 years in the PTI, Shahid Qazi became fed up with the party’s continuous policy changing, external pressure, addition of a number of dirty politicians looking for safe havens and the lack of commitment to promises by Imran
Khan.
According to Mr. Qazi, Imran Khan would say something but even without taking into confidence any party member, do something else.
Same is the case we witnessed when Imran Khan headed to the United Kingdom in order to prove the corruption against MQM chief, Altaf Hussain. Nothing happened and it was all said and done behind closed doors where Mr. Khan supposedly withdrew all of his
cases against Mr. Hussain.
Shahid Qazi, one of the senior most members of the party, which cannot be disagreed upon especially since his joining was at a time when the party did not have any importance in the country at all, but leaving it at a time when considered that the PTI might
luckily win a few seats here and there, does signal that his intentions to resign were on the basis of truth.
The main four points of his resignation were the following:
1. Not holding free and fair elections in the PTI
2. Imran Khan not raising his voice against the killings of the Baloch people by the army or any such stance against the establishment
3. Visiting nine zero (the HQ’s of the MQM)
4. For accepting numerous corrupt politicians into his political party after they being rejected in their own.
It is easy to see that Imran Khan has and is still willing to take on board all such people who have been rejected by the so called corrupt parties of Pakistan, which certainly does not make sense if he intends to bring about a revolution.
The addition of turncoats like Awais Leghari of the PML-Q, a diehard supporter of the illegal Musharraf regime along with former IB chief, Masood Khattak, who was dismissed on charges of corruption, were also regarded as a reason for the resignation.
Seeing the monumental weight of such action by the former vice president of the party, it would not be surprising to see the PTI act like many other parties have in the past, since only Imran Khan will be the new person on the platform that is if they win
at all.
