Gilani directs minimum inconvenience due to gas shortage

House, Gilani constituted a high level Task Force led by the Minister for Petroleum to accelerate the process to increase the supply of natural gas in the country and directed that all irritants be removed.He asked all stakeholders to work on
war footing to ensure regular supply of natural gas during November, December and January and warned that “An attitude of business as usual is unacceptable.”

The meeting was attended by Minister for Petroleum Dr. Asim Hussain, Secretary Finance, Cabinet Secretary, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, Secretary Petroleum, Acting Chairman FBR and senior officials of relevant ministries.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources briefed the meeting about various development projects like Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline, Turkmenistan- Afghanistan- Pakistan and India (TAPI) gas pipeline and import of LNG to overcome the shortage of gas
in the country.
The Prime Minister directed that work on these projects be expedited and concerned authorities should meet in quick succession, to evolve an operational strategy to speed up work and overcome energy deficiency in the country within the earliest possible
time.
The Prime Minister also underscored the need of launching an awareness campaign to sensitize people to the imperative of energy conservation particularly during the winters to ensure maximum benefit and comfort to the people.
