Pak Elektron Limited are likely to stripped of their Premier League status, after the team again failed to show for their latest encounter with KRL.
The Elektrons were already languishing at the bottom of the table before the tie and the resulting walk-over has made them favourites to fall down to the PFF League.
However the Lahore outfit’s woes do not end there, as it is reported that they may also be banned from participating in the Pakistan’s 2nd tier competition.
A top official of the PFF commented on the situation and revealed that the club had written to the federation and cited that the most of their players were facing life threats and due to that they were unable to take part in any matches.
“PEL has written to Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) and has described that their players have faced life threats that’s why they won’t be able to appear in their matches.”
While the PFF were sympathetic to the situation, they distanced themselves from the alleged threats, as it was not their job to ensure the safety of the players according to the official.
“It is the responsibility of departments to provide security not the responsibility of PFF so we take it as a failure on the part of PEL. Their further matches in the event will be counted as walk-overs. We are preparing a case against them and would forward
it to our disciplinary committee. It’s the discretion of the committee to decide their fate. However, we would recommend them to ban PEL from Division B as well,” he said.
However PEL coach, Asghar Anjum, also cast his opinion on the matter and said that it was indeed his tedious task to ensure that his players were fully protected, also adding that he had tried everything in his power to settle the issue but to no avail as
of yet.
“At the end of the day the responsibility falls on my shoulders that I picked up players from one region but my intention was clean and I never knew that circumstances will get out of control.”
“I have not been able to sleep because of all this and it’s really disheartening because I gave my all to build this side,” the tactician said.
With PEL likely to be plying their trade in the PFF League or worse being banned, it remains to be seen whether Pak Elektron Limited continue their ambitious project or not.
