A graduate of the famed Manchester United academy and having plied his trade with the likes of Tranmere Rovers, Port Vale and Mansfield Town, Adnan Ahmed is one of the most talented and experienced players in the Pakistan National Team.
A dedicated and consistent performer whenever relied upon, the midfielder has provided attacking prowess to the Green Kickers, which had been missing for a long time.
In his first game in Pakistani colours, the 27-year-old was on the wrong end of a 7-0 trouncing at the hands of Asian giants Iraq. However a surprise 0-0 draw in the 2nd leg, showed what a quality player like Adnan is capable of.
His recent games on the International stage have also been spectacular, as he and Atif Bashir have primarily been responsible for keeping the scoreline to a minimal for Pakistan.
While he wasn’t able to prevent a defeat for his team against Bangladesh, Adnan’s display oozed class and the way he drifted past the Bengali defence showed that he can proved to be the wow factor in the squad.
However what has really prevented the former F.C Aboosmoslem man from truly realizing his potential with Pakistan has been the lack of quality players around him. Apart from Bashir, none of the local lads boast great skills on the ball and it has hampered
Adnan’s potential.
A move during the World Cup qualifier summed up the situation. Adnan played swift one-twos with Atif and managed to work his way out of trouble, however when he passed a local player, not only did his teammate miss the ball but also put Pakistan on the back
foot once again.
While his growth in the National team has been stunted, the midfielder has enjoyed a relatively successful career on the domestic front.
Adnan’s sublime performances for Ferencvárosi TC were not easy to replicate and the player himself admitted that he made bad decision in leaving the club for supposed greener pastures in Iran.
Currently playing for Bradford Park Avenue, Adnan scored an injury time wonder goal to win the match on his debut and in the process cemented his place as one of the best Pakistani players to have ever graced the green jersey.
