In the world of computer networking, Cisco is considered to be the most vital and reliable vendor in making routers switches and other networking devices and in providing a full fledged communication infrastructure.
Now Avaya, a competitor of communication vendors, is also updating its Ethernet switch selection with six latest models devised to bring the capabilities of its Virtual Enterprise Network Architecture (VENA) to the edge of the Campus Network.
This additions to the Ethernet Routing Switch (ERS) 4000 selection offers plug and play capabilities for IP Phones, quality of Service (QoS) management, and support for both enhanced Power over Ethernet (PoE and PoE+).
The company claimed that its Stackable Chassis technology will be more energy saving (36 %) will control the traffic three times efficiently than previous technology and 40% less total cost of ownership. It will also save power up to (25%-40 %). This technology
is not vulnerable to the interruption of traffic by dimming the network during the off-peak hours with its energy saver technology.
Rohit Mehra, the director of Enterprise Communications infrastructure, IDC, said that strategically, this is a straightforward mid-range, high performance, Stackable switch announcement with PoE+ and Small Form-Factor Pluggable Plugs (SFP+) support.
"With some good QoS and, more importantly, [Unified Communications]-related integration capabilities, this will give Avaya customers a reason to look at both its voice and data portfolios."
He added that tactically this will improve Avaya’s value proposition with enterprise Information Technology (IT) in terms of being a supplier that provides value through better integration of voice and data networking solutions. Also from calculated point
of view this strengthens Avaya VENA architecture across the enterprise by adding another platform that participates in the virtual services fabric.
Avaya said that the switches with latest technology are another chapter in VENA strategy that offers both tactical and strategic recompense.
It added that tactically the switch allow the company to contend better in the market and strategically, the use of its chipsets future-proofs the products, allowing the addition of capabilities such as virtualization and extending the life of the switches
to seven t 10 years.
Avaya said that the time span is also vital because several Cisco products are about to be expired so the customers in the market are evaluating various alternatives. Therefore, the company sees a bigger opportunity.
