The Senate Special Committee on missing persons Monday issued a warning saying that Balochistan might go for separation if the attitude of the federation and the government is not improved towards the province. It added that the issue of missing persons
in the province is very crucial one as their relatives are passing through mammoth agony.
“Sense of deprivation in the province and forceful disappearances are inviting an extreme reaction against the federation,” the committee observed saying that situation in Balochistan was worst even beyond the imagination.
A meeting of the Senate Special Committee on missing persons was held in the Parliament House with Deputy Chairman Senate Jan Muhammad Jamali in the chair to discuss the issue regarding forceful disappearances of people and law and order situation in the
province.
The parliamentary panel observed that property mafia was also involved in disturbing the law and order situation in Balochistan particularly in Quetta. It further explained that such practices could lead the province towards a separation.
The committee also asked Balochistan Police to investigate the matter and submit a detail report about involvement of property mafia in deteriorating the law and order situation in the province.
The parliamentary body also decided to coordinate with the Head of the Missing Persons Commission Justice (Retd) Javed Iqbal so that matter could be handled mutually. "The Committee will share the information provided by police and other law enforcement
agencies with Justice Javed Iqbal to match the statistic which were provided to him," Jamali said.
All the committee members expressed similar concerns that powerful property mafia is grabbing the lands in the provincial metropolis. "This mafia threatens the people including Punjabis and force them to sell their properties on nominal prices," the committee
observed.
Deputy Chairman Senate Mir Jan Muhammad Khan Jamali talking to the media said that issue of missing persons in Balochistan was very crucial one as their relatives were passing through immense agony. He said the relatives of those who went missing had demonstrated
before the Parliament House and on various forums but to no avail.
He appreciated the role of judiciary vis-a-vis such cases that are sub-judice in court of law. He highlighted the need for active collaboration between judiciary and Parliament for the recovery of missing persons.
The parliamentary body summoned the law and enforcement agencies including Frontier Constabulary (FC), Levies and police asking them to present the complete record of the missing persons.
