Taliban’s commander announces that Pakistan and Taliban are holding peace talks

Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and the Pakistani government have started to have peace talks amongst themselves according to the latest developments in Islamabad. TTP which has been labelled as a terrorist group by
western powers and the Pakistani government itself has now started peace talks with the Pakistani government which are aimed at stalling hostilities between the two parties.

 TTP has been largely responsible for the large number of suicide attacks that were conducted over the past 4 or so years in Pakistan on civilian as well as military targets by their own admission in some cases. However past peace
pacts with TTP have failed to materialize into domestic security for Pakistan, something that might deter the currently ongoing peace process.

Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan announced through their commander that they are holding talks with the Pakistani government which an ethnic tribal Pashtun as a mediator, he stated that the talks have been quite difficult and added,
“Yes, we have been holding talks, but this is just an initial phase. We will see if there is a breakthrough,” said the senior Taliban commander, who asked not to be identified. Right now, this is at the South Waziristan level. If successful, we can talk about
a deal for all the tribal areas”

The relationship between U.S and Pakistan has already turned sour but such a revelation might cure it even further as Rahimullah Yusufzai stated, Yusufzai who is an expert on Taliban stated, “The US won’t be happy. If there is
less pressure from Pakistan on the militants then they (the Pakistani Taliban) will turn their attention to Afghanistan.”

The senior Taliban commander added to his earlier remarks by saying, “We never wanted to fight to begin with. Our aim was to rid Afghanistan of foreign forces. But the Pakistani government, by supporting America, left us no choice
but to fight.”
