The New Galaxy Nexus hits the market, mixed reviews at first-sight
Monday, November 21st, 2011 7:12:46 by Usman KhalidGalaxy Nexus, the joint venture of Google, Inc. and Samsung Electronics, was released worldwide on November 21.
Google’s signature smartphone incorporated the new Android operating system, Ice Cream Sandwich, for the first time since its release in September.
The phone comes with hi-tech specs available in the market. It’s an LTE-based GSM and WCDMA PDA however; the wireless version is yet to hit the markets.
The Nexus is powered by a Dual-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A9 processor with 1 GB of RAM.
There is a 5-megapixel camera at the rear, which seems a little low-tech but it gives a denser and high picture quality than other smartphones in the market. It is capable of recording 1080p full-HD video at 30 frames per second.
The Active Matrix OLED screen has a dense 1280 x 720 pixels resolution that is top-shelf quality in the market.
There is a micro-USB port and 3.5 mm headset jack planted at bottom. However, with 32 GB of built-in storage, Galaxy comes barren of a micro-SD card slot.
However, the final verdict of tech gurus was that the new OS could not live up to the hype created when it was first made public.
With its release in September, Google opened up a whole new world of possibilities for application developers.
There are a number of new features included in the OS to fiddle with. However, if every now and then a phone hits the market and revolutionizes the smartphone technology, Nexus is surely not one of them.
The design undoubtedly is very sleek and it gives a good feel in hand. The touch sensitive button at are not a mess either but when probed into the software, it gives a host of features to learn at once.
The GUI of this new Linux-based OS is waterlogged with so many tweaks that it eclipses the learning curve of the software, which is a down-side feature.
