A sequel to the superhero flick X-Men First Class (directed by Mathew Vaughn) was announced earlier this month with an expected release date of summer 2013. First Class was a prequel to the X-Men trilogy and was released earlier this year.
20th Century Fox’s X-Men: First Class topped the US and Canadian Box Office in its opening weekend but did a comparatively lower business than the X-Men: Last Stand and X2. However, it did earned slightly more than the original movie.
James McAvoy, who voices the title character in Sony Pictures Animation’s Arthur Christmas, is contracted for two more movies, discussed a possible plot of the movie.
"[Xavier] can’t just become the guy that we saw in the first three movies,"
says McAvoy. "He just had two major things happen to him. He’s lost his best friend, essentially, and he’s just been paralyzed from the waist down… I don’t care if he’s a superhero and has brain powers or not, he’s just had a huge part of
his physical life taken away from him, by someone he cares about more than anyone else. So he’s got to deal with that."
The franchise is similar to the darker, more mature content of the Harry Potter film series. The director compares the first movie to Batman Begins as it explains and describes the origin of the characters. While he compares the upcoming sequel to The Dark
Knight and said that we can just get on with it as we are aware of the characters. Vaughn also threw down few ideas, “I thought it would be fun to open with the Kennedy Assassination, and we reveal that the magic bullet was controlled by Magneto.”
First Class 2 will not follow the traditional comic book sequel route of adding more characters but it will only add one more new character in it. The character won’t be X-Men or a Brotherhood member but someone of an equal calibre of Magneto. He would be
nemesis of Eric Lensherr since Xavier will be on a wheelchair.
In addition to this, many of cast members have expressed interests in reprising their roles including January Jones as White Queen, Lucas Till as Havok and Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique.
The flick will have more action, drama and powers and should be on everyone’s radar.
