Iran’s Nuclear Program and America’s Double Standards

United States of America and its allies have imposed economic and energy sanctions on Iran because of its intentions to prepare nuclear weapons. International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) issued a report earlier this month, in which it was revealed that Iran
is violating the international law by making weapons of mass destruction.
This step taken by America is another solid proof of its double standards. Iran is a member of Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), according to that Iran can use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes and the Iranian President, Mahmud Ahmedinejad has explained
a number of times that Iran holds no offence against any country and the nuclear energy is only going to be used for the betterment of the masses in the country.
On the other side of the coin, India has not even signed NPT and yet the US is assisting India in its nuclear assets. The US claims to be the champion of world piece but its ‘double standards’ are becoming more and more obvious with the passage of time.
It has different set of rules for India and Israel, whereas the rules of the game for the other countries and especially the Muslim countries are totally opposite.
Russia has come out in support of Iran and has clearly taken a position by stating that the sanctions imposed on Iran are illegitimate. The Russian Foreign Ministry has issued a statement in which it has condemned the sanctions and Russia believes that the
only way forward for international peace is the process of dialogue.
It stated, "Russia sees such measures as unacceptable and against international law. This practice seriously complicates moves for constructive dialogue with Tehran. We believe that the constant strengthening of sanctions has long ago gone beyond the bounds
of decisions on non-proliferation tasks surrounding the Iranian nuclear program.”
Taking a firm stand with Iran, Russia has denied the allegations of the IAEA report and said that the report is based on political prejudice rather than the ground realities.
“Neither this decision [to publish the report], nor the contents of the report can be regarded as professional,” the Foreign Ministry stated.
