Recently, both the father of video games as members of British Parliament severely attacked the alleged advocacy of violence that makes Modern Warfare 3. In response, Eric Hirshberg, head of distribution for Activision asks rhetorically why movies like The
Hurt Locker are more respected than his game, being that both are forms of entertainment that exploit the phenomenon of war.
"The producers did not create The Hurt Locker like a community service, they did it to tell a story that was recounted thought. It was a piece of entertainment that sold tickets and DVDs. And yet, not seen as exploiting the events. He is seen as an artistic
interpretation, as a commentary on the current situation. The creative process of making this film and our games are very similar, but they receive different, "he said and added that video games are also an art form.
For Hirshberg, the fact that Modern Warfare adopt a position focused on action should not be cause for signs. "We told the stories that the developers wanted. I do not think we have made explicit decisions to avoid the comments. The story and characters
have been developed with every intention of our developers. Black Ops is an example where the subjects were really secret things in the Cold War reality mixed with a little, "he said, referring to those scenes where they appear true figures like Fidel Castro,
John F. Kennedy and others.
The fact is that enough to share this executive development processes and the issue of war, to be equated with war films and deserve the same reputation, but that’s a mistake. The argument serves Modern Warfare 3, obviously, as an excuse for explosions and
frenetic.
That’s not bad, after all it is a game marked by this philosophy. But the difference lies in that while Hurt Locker The canvas is modern warfare, the axis is not violence as such, in fact, as is a war film with very little action. No. The backbone of the
argument is the emotional damage suffered by its star, William James, as well as addiction to the task of disabling explosives. It is from this that he praises as a portrait of a phenomenon that goes beyond the fray itself.
For its part, the characters of all Modern Warfare are guided by a roller coaster of shots and shell casings that comply perfectly with its mission to excite, but there is very little to say in terms of evolution of characters. Who can say something more
about Price as a person regardless of whether you like cigars and has a rough accent?
Modern Warfare 3 has so much violence or even less than other games in the market and to be criticized is debatable, what is not debatable is that the argument is guilty of superficial and therefore not comparable to films that, while trade, seek to go beyond
taking a rifle and shoot.
