Bahria University Football Team – Analysis – Midfielders – Part 1

Faizan Sameer Malik: The Bahria team captain, Faizan Sameer Mailk aka Janu is one of the most versatile players on the team. Faizan can play in a host of positions including the wings and as a striker, but he has gone on to settle to playing as the team’s
creative midfielder.

Faizan possesses good pace and can pass the ball rather well and is a good shooter of the ball. However, Faizan is amongst the very few BU players, who have the ability to use their footwork to beat a player or two. Some might say he tends to over dribble
every now and then, but as long as he gets the job done, there shouldn’t be any complaints over how long he takes to beat them.

Faizan has been with the team for quite some time now and seems to be just the right person to take the reins of the team. He has the ability to make the team gel together and work as a unit, while leading them with one brilliant performance after the other.

Some might say he tends to get a little selfish every now and then, but given the success rate that he possesses, it is safe to say that his selfishness is often justified.

Areeb Khan: The most senior member of the Bahria team, Areeb Khan is set to play his last couple of matches with the team over the next couple of months.

He started playing as a holding midfielder for the team, but he tends to get a little over ambitious and dart forward, but then takes his sweet time to track back.

His tackling is decent to say the least and his sliding tackles have been talked about in Bahria folklore.

Areeb really found himself in the limelight, when he went on to slot home a sudden death penalty, which saw BU beat LUMS for the very first time. What made the win all the more interesting, was the fact that it was played in Lahore at the LUMS home ground.

Being a decent passer of the ball, he tends to distribute the ball well, however, his cheekiness tends to kick in every now and then and this helps him make some interesting passes, which are almost always appreciated. At the same time, being a holding midfielder,
he tends to break up attacks, either legally, or by making lunges towards the opponents, which have miraculously never resulted in a booking for the midfielder.

The BU football team has almost always gone on to win by a landslide, every time Faizan and Areeb have played together and developed a sense of understanding on the pitch.
