Furthermore it is considered the official beginning of the holiday season. But how did this custom about thanking God start? And how did it influence the spiritual development of the United States?

Navigating a ship into the new world, many of the Pilgrims from the United Kingdom died even before reaching America. They had suffered the onslaught of diseases such as hurricane winds.

After a harrowing journey of many weeks, landed on the shores of Plymouth, Massachusetts to begin a new and, some say, miraculous chapter in world history.

At that time unaware that being deflected by the wind, came to the only place in thousands of kilometres of coastline, where an Indian tribe, destroyed earlier by a disease-had cleared land and planted corn.

Historian Peter Marshall explained that the Pilgrims lost half of its people in the first winter. "They knew how to survive in the bleak cold of North America. Suddenly came a Native American who speaks perfect English and offered to help. Corn planted under
his tutelage and finally the corn ripens in October. Then they want to have a thanksgiving celebration. Invite the Chief Massaoit, with ninety warriors coming to the festival to celebrate and enjoy three days of banquets, with bow and arrow skills, relay races
and other games. White people living with the Indians for the first time. "

But while surviving was a great achievement, not compared to what the brothers brave Puritans came to help the United States and the world.

Marshall added it was the first time since the Israelites at Sinai, God’s children had the opportunity to create a society based on His Word. "They literally planted the Gospel in the rocky soil of North America and created the foundation of American society
as we know it today."

Marshall notes that the key concepts of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution have their roots in the earliest documents of the Pilgrims. The expert says that those who deny that America is a Christian nation forget how crucial faith for pilgrims.
