Thanksgiving weekend may not have the Box Office lustre like Christmastime or Independence Day but it has its fair share. Here are some of the movies which The Muppets, Arthur Christmas and Hugo all hope to join as the best Thanksgiving releases of all time.
8. Unbreakable (2000)
M. Night Shyamalan’s Unbreakable is a suspense thriller with supernatural overtones that revolves around a man who learns something extraordinary about himself after a devastating accident. Not only the cast (starring Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson and
Robin Wright) was epic but the film was intriguing in its own right. Performance by Samuel L. Jackson as Mr. Glass was stunning.
7. Scrooged (1988)
Director Richard Donner brought an epic comedy drama starring the legendary Bill Murray, Karen Allen and John Forsythe. It follows a cynically selfish TV executive Frank Cross (Murray) who runs a US TV station which is planning a live adaptation of Dickens’
Christmas Carol. Frost, who is not fond of Christmas due to unpleasant childhood, is haunted by three spirits which changes his mind.
6. Back to the Future Part II (1989)
The magic was gone from the generational landmark that was ‘Back to the Future’. However, this doesn’t mean part II was anything close to getting flop. Director Robert Zemeckis did create many memorable moments and laughable goofy scenes.
It follows Marty McFly (starred by Michael J. Fox) who after visiting 2015 must repeat his visit to 1955 to prevent disastrous changes to 1985. He must also avoid interfering with his first trip. Christopher Lloyd and Lea Thompson also reprised their roles
as Dr. Emmett Brown and Lorraine respectively.
5. Mrs. Doubtfire (1993)
A busy father Daniel Hilliard (played by Robin Williams) finds himself divorced without custody of his kids. The only way to spend time and to get closer to his kids was by getting hired as an old nanny by her ex-wife (starred by Sally Field). He eventually
disguises as Mrs. Euphegenia Doubtfire and grabbed the job.
Chris Columbus did an excellent job portraying his character and despite the long-rumoured sequel which has never gotten underway, Mrs. Doubtfire will always be a 90’s-comedy stapple.
