Where are the Nancy Drews and the Hardy Boys of today? The end of an era

There was a time when detective novels were what everyone used to read. No I am not talking about Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes but rather a phenomenon that reached its peak in my childhood and then faded away.
I am of course talking about the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys detective novels that I spent a majority of spare time reading and collecting. While Nancy Drew never drew me into her world, see what I did there, I would be seen with a Hardy Boys book in my hand
almost all of the time.
It was the series of novels that actually got me into reading as a hobby, as it did with so many other readers. Simple yet complex at the same time, filled with suspense and mystery, brotherhood and friendship and some truly deep moments the series had me
from the first book I picked up and read.
However, enough of me and my nostalgia, the question is what happened to books like that? Yes, we have the Harry Potter saga by J.K. Rowling and the unfortunate Twilight series as well, yet those never came as frequent and often as Franklin W. Dixon’s novels.
It allowed for more consistency in reading and opened the imagination of the reader on a near monthly basis, as opposed to the break in the release schedule of the more epic novels such the two mentioned earlier.
I have been looking for a series like Franklin W. Dixon’s and although I have outgrown R. L. Stine’s Goosebumps, I cannot seem to find anything that is similar in terms of popularity and timely release schedule.
So when people point out that the current generation is not reading enough or are not as interested as they ‘once’ were, it is a bit of misleading statement. People do read, it is just that novels and books have been replaced by blogs and other literary
content which one can find on the internet.
It may not be the same but until there is another series which can capture an entire generation, people will tend to wait for the film version to come out.
