Bahria University humiliate KICKSIT to advance in the Muhammad Ali Jinnah University Football tournament

Bahria University took on KICKSIT in the opening match of the first ever football tournament to be held in the new campus of the Muhammad Ali Jinnah University. Many were predicting a tough match as both sides seemed equally matched.

The Bahrian side was full of seasoned veterans with Areeb Khan, Bahria’s senior most player on the squad and Musa Khan Afridi starting in defence. Muhammad “Nutmeg” Naeem was playing his second tournament representing Bahria and Iftikhar Butt joined him
in that category.

Kick off was delayed as the ground staff had not fully prepared the playing surface, yet armed with a  lawn mower and later a tractor, it was time to get the match underway.

KICKSIT dominated the opening periods of the match, winning the midfield battle, yet for all their possession the defence and the keeper, Nahyan Shahzada, held strong. It was only when Muhammad Bilal’s throw in found the captain, Faizan Sameer Malik, who
found the back of the net with a brilliantly paced header that Bahria came into their stride.

The second goal came soon after and unsurprisingly in the similar fashion to the first. Bilal’s throw in found Faizan who nodded the ball home once again. The rest of the half was a midfield battle which neither side won.

The second half began with Bahria having to deal with the added issue of the Sun in their eyes, yet it was KICKSIT that was on the back foot.

Naeem lived up to his nick name and nutmegged two players before a return pass found him in space inside the opposition penalty area. Making no mistake he placed the ball into the top right corner of the goal to make it three nil.

Nothing was going to stop the captain from getting his hat-trick as he found his third goal soon after, yet Bahria were not done. Seething from the referee’s decisions to book three players Musa Afridi threw caution to the wind and ran the ball down the
right wing and into the opposition half.

A pass from Bilal found him in space and from the narrowest of angles Afridi managed to squeeze the ball between keeper and post for Bahria and the match’s final goal.

Final score Bahria University 5 – 0 KICKSIT
