Every time, the government makes tall claims for foolproof security in the holy month of Muharram, and without fall short, every time its efforts are not adequate to thwart violence.
Right from the very first day of the Muharram, a sad incident claimed two innocent lives in Karachi. At least two scouts were gunned down in the provincial metropolis that led to prolonged hours demonstrations.
Unknown armed men opened fire on the scouts when they were in way attend the central congregation of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) at Nistar Park, Karachi.
It was understandable that the law enforcement agencies failed to foil the terrorist plans in the last year’s rallies, as it was not possible to check every single person comes in the procession.
However, the incident of Karachi was not as much difficult to put off. The law enforcement agencies should have been prepared prior to the start of the month in order to avoid any untoward happening.
This incident of violence is particularly irritating for many reasons. It was not unclear who was behind the attacks; whether the anti-shia elements were the culprits or target killers attempted to exploit the murders. But it is unacceptable in any case.
Similarly disturbing is the reality that this killing concludes a couple of months of comparatively peaceful environment in the metropolis city of Karachi.
Dissimilar to the earlier violence, which had different reason including political in temperament, this has been pushed the sectarian violence.
All the major political forces join hands with the ethnic groups to pounce on the chances to press an edge by supporting the bloodshed.
The holy month of Muharram assures to be tense one throughout the country. The problem of violence is festering for decades but no instant way out searched in this regard.
The tension among the different sects is increasing day by day but no one comes forward to bridge this gap.
It doesn’t matter how unwilling the government is to accept this, the real thing is that it did not have capability to avert such incidents.
It is not an ideal way to start the holy month of Muharram; however, it is not we should be shocked any longer.
