It has been over a decade since Pakistani film industry has started reducing its viewership by providing low-budgeted movies to their fans. “Lollywood” faithful had lost their hopes for the revival of Pakistani cinema until some
cultured and educated producers-directors have entered the business last year.
2011 has been a promising year for the Pakistani film industry, as it provided the audience with movies like Slackistan, Bhai Log, Love main gum and Shoaib Mansoor’s “Bol”.
Films like “Kolachi”, “Waar” and “Rafina” are still underway and there is much to expect from the upcoming movies, next year.
It is now reported that, Summer Nicks, an Australian film maker- producer and a writer, has started working on his new venture “Seedling” while his debut science fiction film “Kolachi” is still under development.
“Our focus is on Seedlings these days, but Kolachi is also under development.
Kolachi will hopefully enter the pre-production phase in early 2012.”Nicks was quoted as saying.
Unlike his previous venture, which is a sci-fi movie, “Seedling” is an everyday human interest story and to the much surprise of the audience is an Urdu film (its Urdu title yet to be confirmed) starring Mohib Mirza, Gohar Rasheed
and Aamina Sheikh in the leading roles and Tara Mahmood, Mehreen Rafi and hira tareen in supporting roles.
The promising movie has been directed by Mansoor Mujahid, and shot by Faraz Iqbal, who were behind the promotion video of Kolachi.
While speaking to the media, Nicks revealed the plot of the movie by saying:
“The story is a about a couple and the rush of emotions they experience when tragedy strikes.”
While the producer is expecting much for his upcoming movie, the director is himself delighted to work on the project, who said:
“The thing that I most liked about the film is that it’s not about political corruption, terrorism, socio-economic constraints or any other tragedy that we read in the paper and see on television every day. The challenge was to
present a clichéd topic in a different manner. To be precise, Seedlings is very real.”
Though it is difficult to break the heavy fan base chain of Indian cinema at once, but people like Nicks, Sharmeen Obaid, Bilal Mansoor and Shoaib Mansoor are widely contributing towards the revival of the Industry.
