Dual-Screen smartphones actually are dumbphones

Many technology companies have taken the dual-screen technology in their strides but to date there has been none seen with a success. Including another screen into the equation seems an incredible idea but thus far there has been little or no success observed.

The addition of an LCD either increases the depth of the phone or makes it difficult for the user to use right and left hemispheres of their brains coincidently.

Following are some of flops in the recent history that have come and gone out of the market without gathering much attention, in positive sense of course.

1. Samsung Continuum – 2010

The Koreans incorporated a small ticker at the side of the main screen that was designated for RSS feeds, tweets on Twitter and much other intimation. However, the little screen was far more nagging and far too little to read. Moreover, the thickness of
the phone was comprised while adding the innovation to picture.

2. Kyocera Echo – 2011

The professional camera manufactures attempted to step into the smartphone technology and truth be told, their flagship mobile device with true dual screens was a mind blowing idea at first.

However, when given a thorough look at the device, it gave a feeling of close confinement. The secondary LCD was much smaller and its prime use was as a virtual keyboard. However, the QWERTY keyboard nestled into the small size was too cramped up for big
hands to tap keys. The phone never saw a good demand or a demand at all for that matter.

3. LG DoublePlay – 2011

Launched in November with Android OS, the phone became one of the biggest flops of the year. In addition to a main screen, the company had added another 2-inch screen into the keyboard section, bifurcating the keys into two equal halves. The flop makes perfect
sense.

In addition, the small LCD that was used to display icons for swift switching between the application, was too small to fish out icons in it and too big a distraction.

The dual-screen technology has so far completely collapsed in the cell phones but there is fair chance that it might work wonders in tablet world. However, in recent rumours Microsoft, who were allegedly working on a dual-screen tablet called Courier, have
discarded the project due to unforeseeable expenditure.
