Reports confirm that All Pakistan Cable Operators Association has unanimously blocked BBC’s International news channel, BBC World News, from broadcasting in Pakistan. According to the cable operators, the move is in response to a documentary, named Secret
Pakistan, broadcasted by the channel.
Authorities also issued warnings to other foreign channels, should they be found broadcasting any anti-Pakistani material, their transmission will meet the same fate.
The BBC have made brisk response to the retaliatory actions and have attempted to sway the operators to reinstate the channel back on air.
Secret Pakistan—a two-part BBC documentary—questioned Pakistan’s commitment in tackling Taliban militancy. It argued that action of some personnel in Pakistan were dubious. The documentary also quoted U.S intelligence officials saying that those two-faced
personals acted as America’s allies in public. However, they were secretly training and helping Taliban in Afghanistan against the U.S. troops.
The All Pakistan Cable Operators Association announced on Tuesday that all foreign news channels broadcasting anti-Pakistan content would be banned from Wednesday, November 30.
The Operators also called on the Pakistan Electronic Media Regularity Authority (PEMRA) to revoke the landing rights of foreign channels if they are found to be propagating information harmful to Pakistan.
Pakistan’s relations with the U.S and the West in general have already been bayed by recent NATO attack in Mohmand Agency in addition to continual drone attacks in Pakistani territory. Moreover, the controversial Osama Bin Laden operation in May following
a dispute over a CIA contractor, who acquitted earlier this year following the killing of two men in Lahore, has also helped beefing up severe tension between the two countries.
