The police chief of Lahore said that government agencies issue numerous threat warnings to the force on weekly basis, not for the sake of Police to stop them, but to prevent themselves for being blamed if any threat turns into a
terrorist attack.
During a press conference, on Tuesday, the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO), Ahmed Raza Tahir said, "If Lahore police are told that 25 terrorists and two bomb-laden vehicles are entering the city, there is no way of stopping them."
He said that the agencies just issue a list of probable threats to direct the responsibility towards police department and think that they had done their job by doing that.
He also said that the necessary security measures had been taken for the month of Moharram and they are enough. He also told that along with the police department, Rangers and Army would also stand as a back-up plan.
The trainees at Sihala and Chuhng police training school have been also called for special Moharram duties. Investigation Police and Punjab Constabulary personnel will also perform ascribed duties whereas the Punjab Elite Force and
Quick Response Force will perform patrol duty.
While discussing the security arrangements for Moharram, he added that 600 volunteer men and women would perform checking duty of attendees in group.
He articulated that 12,000 police officers have been assigned special duties for gathering of 4,000 people and 96 processions. He placed his firm belief in the security plan, saying that the security will be kept very tight on all
the Majalis until they completely evacuate.
He uttered that all the routes will be checked by dogs and bomb disposal squad while the traders on the route assured police that they will shut down the businesses for the security reasons.
While talking to the media, the CCPO told about the stolen vehicles. He said that in the month of October, 212 stolen cars were recovered and 8 gangs and 44 individual were also arrested.
Furthermore, he proclaimed that a total of 1,700 cars and 800 bikes were recovered during his tenure.
