White House desires to maintain ties with Pakistan

House after the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Sayed Yousuf Raza Gilani, said that there would be “no more business as usual” with Washington after the tragic NATO air strikes on Pakistani armed forces on Saturday.
Although NATO is already holding an enquiry of the matter, the Pentagon has announced that the US Military will conduct a separate enquiry to determine what were the actual causes for the US and NATO aircrafts attacking the Pakistani
positions. A strong reaction came from the Pakistani government immediately after the air strikes and the NATO supplies to Afghanistan were instantly blocked, Prime Minister Gilani stated that Pakistan will re-evaluate its strategic relations with the United
States.
White House Press Secretary, Jay Carney, addressed to a press conference, stating: “Well, we take the matter very seriously. And we understand concern that members of the Pakistani government, as well as the Pakistani people, have
about this incident. And that`s why we`re very interested in having it investigated and finding out exactly what happened.”
When asked about how seriously the United States government has taken the remarks of Prime Minister Gilani, the Press Secretary mentioned that Pak-American relationships have always been very complicated in the past but “it is
also an important relationship and one that we need to work hard on because that cooperation is in the interest of the United States.”
The White House spokesman stated the United States military and government is deeply grieved about the Pakistani soldiers who lost their lives in the tragic event. He further told that senior US officials have been in constant
connection with their Pakistani counterparts after the incident, making attempts to ease out the intense moments.
Carney told the press that America’s national security interests greatly depend on its relationships with Pakistan, as the Asian nation is a vital ally of the United States in the war against terrorism.
