The Outrageous and Unjustified Car Prices in Pakistan -Part 2

In the previous part of this article, we discussed how the car mafia in Pakistan was sucking the blood out of every possible consumer they could get their hands on, but this time, we will talk more about each and every difference in the cars we find here
and the ones that are available in our neighbouring countries and even those overseas.

Starting off with possibly the worst brand in the entire country, that is not as bad as a company as it looks to be but due to the quality it provides in our country, it just is certainly a depressing situation.

Pak-Suzuki

Certainly, the most disappointing range of cars in terms of all aspects including price, quality, durability and economy are those given by Pak-Suzuki. Do not get me wrong, Suzuki is a respectable brand of automobiles around the globe, but just not in our
country.

It is one of the most powerful members of the car mafia since they are just outright devouring the money of hard working people around our nation since no extremely wealthy man considers to buy a Suzuki, it is the person who works hard and saves every penny
that must settle with the lower range of cars, which these shameless people take benefit of and try to grab as much money as they possibly can.

We will in detail, discuss the entire range of their products and what they really do offer and I personally will try and put forth a clear picture to my fellow countrymen in an attempt to bring out the truth, so let us start off with the most disappointing
of all, the Suzuki Mehran.

1.      Suzuki Mehran

Most possibly the worst car manufactured inside of Pakistan in the Suzuki Mehran. Not just in terms of quality, which was compensated for with the low price it was once offered for, but now it is certainly not a cheap car and I do not know anyone who could
afford one on purely cash without getting the bank involved.

Suzuki terms the Mehran as “The Best Choice” on their website, which is seriously overrating something that does not even deserve to be driven on a paved road.

Currently, Pak-Suzuki is offering the Mehran in four different trims.

i.                    Mehran VX

ii.                  Mehran VX CNG

iii.                Mehran VXR

iv.                Mehran VXR CNG

For a base model price of Rs. 495,000, this car is not cheap at all in any sense, especially since this trim does not come either with an air-conditioner or CNG, both things which are basic necessities in this country due to the extreme heat in the summers
and expensive petrol prices.

The Mehran VXR with CNG is the highest range the Mehran goes to and only includes an AC and CNG factory fitted for a shocking price of Rs. 605,000!

First of all, let’s compare this to the same car available in a very similar country to us, India!

In India, the Mehran is known as the Maruti 800, Maruti being the company that is in partnership with Suzuki.

The standard model of the Maruti 800 is for less than 200,000 INR, which is a huge difference compared to ours.

The highest trim that is offered by Maruti on their 800 includes an A/C and runs on LPG, which is more commonly used their, which is still barely more than the base model for only INR Rs. 236,000.

It is very surprising to see the magnitude of the difference between two countries that are only a few kilometres apart, but seeing how their companies actually care about their customers, they keep their products cheap and actually affordable according
to what they offer.

Pak-Suzuki might not have introduced anything in their Mehran since it was introduced in 1988, except a few changes in the lights but nothing else, but they have certainly managed to increase the price in manifolds. The 800 might be the same in India, but
at least they have not raised its prices up to 300% like our people have.
