Al Qaeda leader Ayman Al-Zawahiri said in a Thursday statement seen by a US-based monitoring group that Al Qaeda has made USAID worker a hostage who was abducted in August from Pakistan.
The SITE Intelligence group said that Zawahiri reportedly claimed in a video message released on jihadist forums, that Al Qaeda had on August 13 kidnapped the aged USAID worker Warren Weinstein, who was working punctually a project of American aid in Pakistan.
Zawahiri promised a conditional release of the 70-year-old American worker. He said that if America halts its air strikes in Afghanistan, Somalia, Yemen and Pakistan and release the 1993World Trade Centre bombers and the family of Osama bin Laden then Al
Qaeda will hand over their citizen to them.
“Just as the Americans detain all whom they suspect of links to al Qaeda and the Taliban, even remotely, we detained this man who has been neck-deep in American aid to Pakistan since the 1970s,” Zawahiri said in the 31-minute video.
Among a list of eight demands for the release of US worker, Al Qaeda also demand for the release of “Blind Sheikh” Omar Abdul Rahman, Yousef Ramzi and Sayid Nosair, who are linked to the 1993 World Trade Centre bombing.
Abu Musab al-suri’s release, one of Al Qaeda’s senior theorists and operatives is also included in the demand list.
SITE revealed that Zawahiri directly addressed the hostage’s family and told them that US President Barak Obama had the power to secure Weinstein’s release but he was dodging his responsibility to thrust for the release.
Obama “lied, he lies, and he will lie,” Zawahiri was quoted as saying. “
He might say to you that he sought to free their relatives, but Al-Qaeda was stubborn, do not believe him.
He added that Obama might say to you that he tried to contact them and they did not reply. Do not believe him. He might say to you that he is doing all that he could to release you relative.
