Approximately 100,000 Aids patients living in Pakistan
Thursday, December 1st, 2011 9:06:18 by Umair HassanA recent survey of National Aids Control Program has forecasted shocking numbers of approximately 100,000 aids patients living in Pakistan.
Acquired Immune Deficiency System commonly used as Aides not only a deadly disease but it is somewhat considered taboo in many under develop countries including Pakistan where some group and self-styled group activists say that this is not our element of
culture’s part.
President of Pakistan Society Dr. Saleem Azam recently has said about the people living with HIV and Aids,
“According to UNAIDS estimates, the number of people living with HIV and AIDS (PLHA) in Pakistan is 97,400 i.e. approximately 100,000, out of which about half live in Sindh, with 80 per cent in Karachi. In other words Karachi alone has a population of 40,000
people living with HIV & AIDS. But in Pakistan we have been able to reach only 7pc of the estimated 97,400 PLHA If we do not invest now, we will have to pay several times more in the future
These number are just a conjecture of people with HIV but the instinctive fear about the people, who are HIV positive do not know that they are infected and need more awareness.”
One major concern in regard of dissemination of Aids is the sexual promiscuity along with the lack of awareness when giving blood to someone while sometimes the doctor does not bother to change the syringe and more likely passes to another person with IV
drug dilemma which is still not lessening.
