Digital Divide – Part Three

Continued from the previous part …
We cannot compare a student who has all the facilities available like computer, internet etc with a student who lives in a small town and does not even know how to use a computer. Because of the Digital Divide, it has become extremely hard for a poor child
to succeed in life and raise his/her lifestyle.
Majority of the great people in the history of this world belonged to a poor background, but at that time there was not much concept of technology in education, therefore they were able to compete successfully but right now because of the Digital Divide
there is no comparison between a student who has all the facilities available and a student who is not computer literate.
It is very easy to accuse an individual or a community for their criminal acts and terrorism but in my opinion the root-cause of majority of crimes is the un-equal opportunity to succeed in life. It is because of this injustice, young people are attracted
towards crime or the latest phenomena in the world called “terrorism”.
In the current era of the world, it is becoming increasingly difficult for the 3rd world countries to counter their problems because they don’t have enough internet facilities available. United nations should look into this matter deeply so that
they can decrease the gap between the 1st world countries and the 3rd world countries. It is very important for united nations to provide level playing field for everyone to maintain peace around the world.
Consequences of Digital Divide are very much evident in a country like Pakistan where first of all not enough computer technology is available and secondly the amount of internet or computer technology we have is consolidated in the major cities like Islamabad,
Lahore and Karachi. People of the smaller cities and the smaller provinces like Baluchistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are deprived.
Students of the smaller cities who can afford come to the major cities to get better education. Even all the good jobs are available in the bigger cities. If Pakistan is to grow economically and to compete with the rest of the world government should make
sure that computer and internet facilities are available all around the country. Danish School System is a nice step taken by the Punjab Government towards narrowing the gap of Digital Divide.
