After two years of continues negotiations and 149 days of depressing lockout, one of the major professional American sports National Basketball Association is on its way to resume business followed by a tentative agreement between the league’s owners and
players to form a new 10-year Collective Bargaining Agreement.
With the expiration of the previous CBA, the NBA locked out its players on 1st of July, 2011 as both the parties failed to settle the labour dispute. Since then, a number of meetings took place between the owners and players association. However,
each time both sides left the negotiation undivided on a number of issues with division of Basketball Related Income (BRI) being the top.
After nearly five month of continuous talking, the players even disbanded the union to take the matter at the doors of the court which materialized the fear of losing a complete season for the first time in history of the National Basketball Association.
Luckily, the NBA Commissioner David Stern and former executive director of the players union Billy Hunter came for the rescue who had a 15-hour meeting on 26th November to remove the dark clouds form the league. Both the executives agreed to a
tentative deal which will help to for a new CBA.
Now the NBA is expected to have a shortened 66-game season on 25th December which will be the best Christmas gift for the basketball fans who have been waiting anxiously to see some action on the court since the lockout took its first breath.
This will be the second time NBA is going to have a shortened season and on both the occasions, the delay came as a result of the labour dispute
