Junoon, a Rock-cum-Sufi band, which is regarded as South Asia’s hottest rock band was started back in the early 90’s and had provided their listeners a blend of traditional music with Sufi poetry and redefined the Pakistan musical
landscape over the years.
Salman Ahmed, the founder of Junoon, has now decided to follow the footsteps of various Pakistani musicians to enter the Bollywood industry with a little hesitation after falling out with, his group member and lead vocalist, Ali
Azmat.
It is reported that Ahmed has broken the dead lock and recorded a song “Yaaro” along with the Indian sensational singer,
Sunidhi Chauhan, in Vivek Kumar’s latest effort- Rhythm, which will be released in June, next year.
Kumar is a well known Indian-famed director, who had previously directed Lakeer- starring Sunny Deol and John Abraham.
It was earlier reported that the promising director has casted Pakistani pop singer Adeel Chaudhry for a lead role and now reports in India suggest that Ahmed is also making a cameo appearance along with lending his music to the
upcoming Bollywood flick.
However, the 47-year-old is not new to the acting business as he justified his character working in Pakistani television serials; Aahat, Talaash and Dhundle Raste.
“Always thought doing a Bollywood soundtrack would be fun and now have got an offer to do one.
I’ll be doing my first Bollywood film with music and cameo appearance with my guitar as well!” the musician-cum-actor was quoted as saying.
If speculations are to believe, Ahmed is also rendering his music to “The Reluctant Fundamentalist” directed by a US-based Indian director, Mira Nair, who is reportedly a long time admirer of the Junooni boy.
The Reluctant Fundamentalist is based on Pakistani author Mohsin Hamid’s bestselling novel, starring Hollywood veteran actors, Kiefer Sunderland and Kate Hudson. Salman will be working alongside Meesha Shafi in the upcoming international
feature film, better known as the Jugni girl after singing alongside Arif Lohar in Coke Studio.
Much is expected from Ahmed’s upcoming songs, as the Lahori-born musician has always provided something new to the audience. It will be interesting to see how Salman will add a little touch of Sufism into the songs.
