The Town: A review
Friday, December 2nd, 2011 5:49:30 by Taha HabibThe Town is a story of four robbers whose mission is to rob banks and collect money which fulfils their need. There major weapon is to disguise people and deprive them of their holdings like cash, credit cards, cars etc.
The film has been directed by Ben Affleck and written by Peter Craig. The main cast includes Ben Affleck as ‘Doug’, Rebecca Hall as ‘Claire’, Joe Hamm as ‘FBI agent, Adam Frawley’, Jeremy Renner as ‘James’, Blake Lively as ‘Krista’ and Chris Cooper as ‘Stephen’.
The Charlestown neighbourhood of Boston is renowned for churning out a high number of armed robbers, generation after generation.
These robbers never leave their Charlestown life on their own volition, the neighbourhood where there is an unwritten code to protect that lifestyle.
Such robbers include friends Doug MacRay, James Coughlin, Albert ‘Gloansy’ Magloan and Desmond Elden.
Doug and James in particular treat each other like family, as the latter has realistically been as such to Doug since Doug’s mother ran off and Doug’s father, Stephen MacRay, was sent to prison.
James’ single mother sister, the drugged out Krista Coughlin, and Doug have a casual sexual relationship. The foursome carry out a mostly successful bank robbery, but due to circumstances take the bank manager, Claire Keesey, hostage for a short period before
releasing her physically unharmed.
They find out that Claire lives in Charlestown. All four of them start keeping an eye on the young girl as she is usually seen with one of the FBI agent’s. Doug gets romantically involved with Claire, causing restlessness amongst the other gang members.
He doesn’t back off despite several requests, ultimately resulting in a small quarrel between the friends.
They, somehow, solve the matter and plan a big robbery from a baseball stadium. As the cash is looted from the finance department and robbers are ready to leave the scene, there is something which becomes a barrier in their way.
What that barrier is and will they be able to sneak out safely?
This question will be answered once you get hold of the TOWN!!
