Worst cricket captains of 2011

With the year coming to an end, everyone seems to be talking about the best players, skippers, all-rounders, coaches and umpires of 2011.
However, no one really likes to talk about the ones who had a miserable year in terms of performance.
This is what forced me to write about the worst cricket captains of 2011. I have chosen three of them and will discuss the average one first followed by the bad and finally the worse.
The average skipper, number three in the list of worst of 2011, was New Zealand’s Ross Taylor.
Some might consider this choice a bit unfair because the Kiwi captain did not get too many chances this year, but his performance as a leader against Zimbabwe forced me to include him in this list.
New Zealand should have whitewashed the series, but lost one of the three One Day Internationals (ODIs) to Zimbabwe and almost screwed a chance of winning a Test match against the minnows.
Number two in my list, the bad one, is Sri Lanka’s captain Tillakaratne Dilshan. He took over from Kumar Sangakkara after the ICC World Cup 2011 and led his side in three series against England, Australia and Pakistan.
The 35-year-old has been unable to lead Sri Lanka in a single Test match victory until now and is also yet to win a single ODI series against any team.
This is the same team that qualified for the World Cup final against India and was ranked number two in the ICC ODI team rankings after the Mega Event.
Due to this consistent bad performance, Dilshan is number two in my list of worst captains in 2011.
I know that the readers would have already guessed that West Indies’ Darren Sammy is the number one flop captain of 2011.
You will see all types of captains, but I bet no one has ever seen one celebrating madly after failing to win a Test match and losing a series.
Trust me, Sammy does so and if you have any doubts; watch the highlights of the recently concluded India/West Indies series.
After losing the first two Test of the three match series, the third game was drawn and the Men in Blue were awarded the series by 2-0.
However, Sammy was excited after the drawn Test and jumped with joy, confusing the Indian fans whether who actually won the series.
He is the only one more animated than Pakistan’s coach Mohsin Hasan Khan and is unarguably the worst captain of this year.
