Nokia Lumia 800: Full Hands-on review – Part-1

Nokia announced its new smartphone Nokia Lumia 800 on October 27 and was made available to the public in a week’s time in Europe, Asia and Australia with a price tag of $585 on its forehead.

The amazing thing about the phone is that it is dual-band GSM phone which is unlocked to be used all over the world on GSM networks, which is virtually everywhere.

The phone comes with Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7.5 Mango, the latest version of the Windows mobile OS. The phone is powered by a 1.4 GHz single core Qualcomm processor with 512 MB of RAM. Although these specs are little low-tech for a smartphone in the current
market, compared to the price, it is definitely a good bargain.

The 3.7-inch curved AMOLED screen is covered by Gorilla glass that is claimed to be scratch resistant. The TFT screen is bright enough to work in the open under bright sunlight. The back of the phone has an 8 mega-pixel camera that is capable of capturing 720p HD video. There is an LED flash nested besides the Carl-Zeiss camera lens.

The sleek and stylish Lumia 800 has lesser ports, all covered and buttons on left side. There is volume rocker and astand-by button accompanied by a snapper pusher on the left side and a micro-USB port on the top to connect the phone to a PC or MAC accompanied by a 3.5mm headset jack.

WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS come as the standard features however; Nokia has revamped the Nokia locator for the smartphone with precise accuracy as compared to N9 that came with MeeGo 1.2 Harmattan.

The 0.48 inches thick phone with 5 oz is quite slim and light in the palm and it comes in three different colours; cyan, magenta, and black colours to suit different demographic needs.

However, the sleek design should not be mixed with the solidity of the handset. Though it is a little heavy but Nokia insures the durability first than featherweight features.

On the downside, the phone lacks an external memory option and is fixed at 16 GB of internal storage. However, Nokia offers 32 GB of memory free on Microsoft’s cloud service, SkyDrive.
