Allies vowed another decade of of shore up to Afghanistan, in exchange for clear progress on good governance as the NATO forces will make an exit from the region in 2014. This vow came from the allies at the major Bonn Conference regarding the future of
afghanistan on Monday in Germany.
Pakistan was the only ally that didn’t participated in the conference in order to mark it’s protest against the NATO/ISAAF troops killed it’s 24 solidiers during an attack on their Pak-Afghan border check post.
United States tried to convience Pakistan to annul Bonn Conference boycott, but their efforts didn’t bear any fruits. As a result of that Bonn Conference held in absence of this major ally. The other major participants of the conference were US Secretary
of State Hillary Clinton, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.
These along with other participants of the conference gave their word that they will stood by Afghanistan, as after the departrure of ally forces it still require security and stability.
The conference’s final conclusions said “This renewed partnership between Afghanistan and the international community entails firm mutual commitments in the areas of governance, security, the peace process, economic and social development, and regional cooperation.”
“The protection of civilians, strengthening the rule of law and the fight against corruption in all its forms remain key priorities.” President Hamid Karzai told around 1,000 delegates gathered in the western German city of Bonn for the one-day meeting that
his government needed long-term international backing.
“We will need your steadfast support for at least another decade” after the troops pull out, he said.
The event’s host, German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle, firmly said that there would be no rush to the exit, even as a threatening global recession intimidates to divert the West from the mammoth challenges facing the strife-wracked nation.
“We send a clear message to the people of Afghanistan: we will not leave you alone, you will not be abandoned,” he said, pledging help in remarks echoed by Merkel in his short address.
