A tablet or e-reader: What is the best choice?

Since the dawn of tablets after the advent of iPad from Apple, Inc., it has seriously overshadowed the e-reader market, pioneered by Amazon with their original Kindle.

However, with time the importance of e-readers is beefing up as the deficiencies to the tablets are emerging in clear contrast. However, the e-readers are also not built to perfection.

The following review will take both devices step-by-step through the gauntlet inquisitions.

Colour

The tablets win the argument in terms of colours with even locking horns with e-readers. The r-readers as the Nook by Barnes and Noble and Amazon’s Kindle and Kindle Touch have crystal display that give a real page-like view of the content in the files but
the content is only available in the shades of black and white colours.

On the other hand, tablets like iPad, Kindle Fire and Nook Color are augmented with colourful screens that are not only good for reading by also for listening to music and watching movies.

Reading Outside

The best choice for reading outside in bright sunlight is the e-reader that has liquid crystal display of e-ink and does not have any hint of glare to fade the screen. It imitates real books with real pages.

The tablets are although colourful but also have glare and not sufficiently backlit to give a clear view of the pages.

The best choice to read outside while on vacation by the seaside or the pool is an e-reader.

On the flip side, the e-reader is not a viable option to be used in dark like in the bed at night as it lacks back lights. The tablets have glowing LCDs and can be easily read in the dark. At the same time, there are peripheral devices available to provide
the readers with ample light to read in the dark.

Web Browsing

This brings about a tough match between the two categories. However, the readers lose the fight with a grain of salt. Both devices are WiFi enabled and can be connected to the internet. However, like a Java-based cell phone, the e-readers have limited internet
facilities with boundaries drawn around the email services, online search engines and dictionaries.

The tablets, on the contrary, have full-fledged access to internet via both a tablet-based browser and applications like Facebook and Twitter, etc.

However, if the user has a smartphone with access to internet or a laptop or computer connected to the cloud, the e-readers does about it.

The bottom line is that if a user has a laptop or a smartphone, most likely an LTE-based handheld, then the e-reader is a good bargain with a $90 budget. On the flip side, if the user needs everything on one slate than a tablet is reasonable choice.
