Bahria University set to take on LUMS this weekend, football match set to be the highlight

It may not have the same history or tradition as a Manchester United versus Liverpool match does, yet it makes up for it in terms of passion and rivalry as neither Bahria University nor the Lahore University of Management Sciences wants to be on the losing
end.

The last time the sides met on the field for a gala, LUMS managed to sneak an overall win by the narrowest of margins in what was a well contested, exhilarating show of sportsmanship from the students of both institutions.

LUMS won the tennis and reigned supreme in the racquet sports, while Bahria dominated the team games winning the hockey, cricket, basketball and football fixtures.

In fact, it was the first time that Bahria had beaten LUMS in a football match in their history, something that former captain, Musa Khan Afridi, is sure to be proud of.

Although the match was played in a hockey ground it did not take away from the occasion as both sides cancelled each other out and the match had to be decided on penalties.

The prospect of returning to prove that the Bahrians can mix it up with the best will be something that some of the veterans of the squad, such as Areeb Khan and Faizan Sameer Malik, will be relishing. Especially seeing how the latter is now the skipper
for the Bahrians.

The rest of the Bahria University squad will be representing their university for the first time outside of Islamabad and it will prove to be a test for the likes of Ahmed Mehdi, Nahyan Shahzada, Talha Nadeem and Muhammad Bilal.

On the other hand, the LUMS team has been in devastating form, routing out FAST in an emphatic 3-1 victory and their appetite for Islamabadi blood will be sure to spur them on against more competitive opponents.

So with the match fast approaching, the question remains whether LUMS can reclaim their lost crown from Bahria, or whether Bahria can put to rest all doubt that they truly possess a team that can mix it up with the best and come out on top.
