Microsoft Inc. has announced their pricing and fees for future Windows applications store. The personal computer giant is ready to start from February with the launch of Windows 8 beta, the operating system designed for both PC and mobile.
To attract developers, Microsoft has announced a commission policy that is more favourable for successful applications. The commission that will be charged by the company is 30% like Apple, however, the similarities stop here. If and when an application
grosses more than $25,000, the fee will drop to 20%.
"We will offer a big bite of the apple," a senior executive of the company said in an obvious allusion to their competitor. The prices of the applications, if not free, will go from $1.49 to $999.99.
Developers have been given the freedom to create different versions of an application and set the time for each in the market. Microsoft also accepts subscription systems on their own applications.
Apple has had a long dispute with content providers who do not accept that subscriptions to a service should be managed outside the control of the organization.
Developers will also be offered the chance to try out the application before buying it and there will be a recommendation system based on feedback from previous buyers.
The aesthetics of the shop’s interface plays Metro, which can be identified with Windows 8. Microsoft already has a store for Xbox and their other mobile phones in relation to their expanded market for computers.
Microsoft have presented their figures of Windows operating system to encourage developers to create applications for it. Windows 7 has distributed 500 million copies while Android equipped machines have sold 247 million units. On the other hand, Apple’s
operating system has 152 million units to their name.
The announcement by Microsoft coincides with the release by Google of their figures in their Android app store. They have reported that downloads numbers have reached 10,000 million.
